Approximately twenty-five thousand residences in Queensland's southeast found themselves without power on the start of the week after severe thunderstorms swept through the area, bringing strong winds reaching over 100 km/h.

Substantial Frozen Precipitation and Broad Damage

Residents observed substantial frozen pellets as large as seven centimeters in particular locations. Meteorological experts verified that different parts across the state had been impacted by large hailstones.

Emergency crews were attempting to repair electricity service throughout the damaged zones, with nearly 70 crews working to handle the widespread outages.

State Emergency Services received over five hundred emergency reports across the area, primarily for property damage but also for downed trees and flooding.

• Wyndham area - 179 calls for assistance

During the peak on Sunday, over 28k energy customers in the state were lacking electricity.

Weather Forecast

Damp conditions were predicted to continue along much of the state's eastern regions this coming days as a weather pattern continued to draw in moisture against the coast.

Tuesday was expected to become the wettest day, with ongoing thunderstorm potential expected across different parts of both regions.

Safety Concern

Medical authorities cautioned that there was an increased chance of thunderstorm-induced asthma across the countryside regions, especially given the ongoing climate situation.
